5 Powerful And Most Effective Tools For Creative Web And Application Designers In 2018

Web design comprises many different skills and regulations in the creation and maintenance of websites. Web designers are expected to have a perception of usability and if their role involves creating mark up then they are also expected to be up to date with web accessibility guidelines.

Web designers use a variety of tools which depends on the production process they are involved in. These tools are updated over time by newer standards and software but the principles behind them remain the same and other testing tools for usability and accessibility to ensure their websites meet web accessibility guidelines.

There are many design tools to start with but these following are the mostly used and much popular web designing tools.

1. Sketch App

Exporting and preparing assets from Sketch to hand over to another team can be a real drag, so the prospect of a tool that does it for you with one click is rather exciting. Sketch app extracts and organises the screens, copy and raster images from all the artboards in a .sketch file, and presents them in a convenient manner. You can see an example of the output from a ripped file here.

This tool is web-based so it works on any OS, which can remove some friction from your workflow if people are using different systems.

4. UI Design Tool – Figma

Figma is a browser-based alternative to Sketch. Similar to Sketch in many respects as a vector based UI tool. Figma’s stands out in it’s collaboration. This key feature allowing for real-time sharing, editing, and work, all on the same document. This ensures that everyone involved sees the same state of design, prevents unintended overwrites.

While still early the software receives continual updates adding features such as prototyping capabilities and developer support. It is missing some core aspects (plugins and enterprise purchases). Hopefully, with continued support these will be added in the coming year to build on a strong foundation.

5. IconJar

Designers who work with icons tend to have a lot of icons. Not just a couple, or a couple dozen…more like a couple thousand. Icons come in huge sets, after all, and digging through multiple sets of icons, stored in random locations all over your Mac, is like searching for a needle in a haystack.

If you’re using design software that supports SVGs, you can drag icons right out of IconJar and drop them onto the other app’s icon to open them there. A preference in IconJar > Preferences > Dragging can tell the app to include PDF format data in case your design software doesn’t support SVGs. Your icon organizer is always just one click away and it has also a free trial.
